Nothing can compare with the hearty look and enchanting sounds
of wood flooring. Wooden floors can inspire a variety of moods
depending on how your kitchen is designed. From cozy to formal,
wood floors give you the ability to be creative and stylish with
a variety of wood types and applications. The typical palette of
wood colors ranges from white/light yellow to brown, but all
fall into the category of warm hues and tones. For this reason,
you may also find complimentary elements such as molding,
cabinets and countertops, with warm tones in a kitchen with
wood floors. Wood floors are unique in that they come in a dizzying array of surface densities, or hardness. If a soft surface is important to you for health reasons, you may want to consider softer wood species such as Chestnut or Douglas Fir. Wood types include Bamboo flooring and Oak flooring. Of course, there are wood surfaces that are quite hard and resilient, such as oak. However, for optimal resilience, there are many pre-finished wood floor products on the market, like parquet flooring, that are sold in kits that are stain, water and impact resistant. Another option for those who like the look of wood by don't like the cost, is plastic laminate flooring, which also comes in wood-emulating styles.

Consider This:

Like granite countertops, hardwood floors increase the value of your home.

Wood floors are not as easy to maintain as other flooring types, such as vinyl and laminate. Proper care must be taken, such as employing kitchen rugs and using special sealants to protect from scratches and dents.

There's currently a big movement to get those interested in wood floors, and other wood elements, to consider bamboo, since bamboo flooring is a fast and naturally renewed wood species. In fact, bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world and using it would significantly cut down on pollution and forest cutting and consumption. Tress must be chopped down, whereas bamboo can simply be re-harvested without affecting roots. Reforestation is reduced by approximately 25 years.
