Today's washing machines clean clothes faster and better than
ever before. There are features-a-plenty and more stylish
options designed to not only perform better, but look better
in your home. There are two main rooms that homeowners use
for washing machines: the laundry room or the kitchen. Sleeker
models accommodate the latter setting. There are two basic
styles of clothes washers: top-loading washing machines and
front-loading washing machines.
Top-loading washing machines
Top loaders are more prevalent and come in a variety of styles and offer an even larger variety of features. Of course, more features amounts to a higher ticket price. However, as a whole, top loaders are more affordable than front loaders. But they're also less energy efficient, which means that they cost more to operate. They also tend to be noisier.
Front-loading washing machines
By most accounts, front loaders offer better performance than top loaders. They don't use anywhere near the same amount of water while cleaning your clothes more effectively and efficiently. Many models are also less noisy, a big plus since washing machines have historically contributed to a household's noise pollution. From a quality and performance perspective, these models are also gentler on your fabrics since they lack agitators and perform their cleaning through an artful combination of tumbling action, water and detergent.
Consider This
Front-loading washing machines tend to hold larger loads.
Front loaders extract more water from clothing leading to shorter drying times, leading to more energy/operation and cost savings.
Top loaders are more affordable but cost more to operate. If you're feeling green, and would like to save some in the long run, go the front loader route.
