Quartz Countertops

Materials | Brands | Edges | Compare | Buy
Granite | Marble | Quartz | Soapstone | Solid Surfaces | Laminate | Specialty

Quartz is one of the hardest natural substances
on the planet. While quartz countertops are made
mostly from quartz, they are not natural products,
as they are mixed with synthetic materials in
fabrication by the manufacturers. They are
considered engineered stone products. This gives
them several advantages over natural stone. For
one, they are completely stain resistant and are
virtually impermeable. You can also be assured that
you will get the same material you see at the store, since color consistency issues related to natural stone are bypassed. Quartz is an excellent option if you have a strict color palette that you would like your kitchen to adhere to since color uniformity can easily be achieved. But probably the most attractive buying point of quartz is its low maintenance appeal. No sealing is ever required, and a simple wiping and cleaning amounts to all the maintenance you'll ever have to do.

Consider This

Some quartz countertop colors, while unnaturally made, come in natural looking surfaces. Some are designed to looking like natural stones, such as granite, marble and travertine.

Unlike granite, quartz countertops are vulnerable to discoloration under long-term exposure to UV rays. Quartz countertops are better suited for indoor applications.

Seams may not be required for your countertop, but if your countertop requires them, due to color uniformity, they will be less noticeable than granite seams.
