Lustrous and silky smooth, marble is a stone that comes
from the limestone family, which has reformed under massive
pressure from the earth over the period of eons. The end result
is one of the earth's most beautiful stones. Marble tile features
a milky surface that is sleek and cool to the touch. Marble is
valued by designers for its striking characteristics and exotic
textures. Like granite tile, marble tile can be found in virtually
any color. However, the glazed color effects of marble are unique,
and unlike granite, it doesn't feature feldspar, the grainy particles
in granite. The visual effect is more organic, even mammalian. In fact, there are some tones of marble that look like human skin.

You can find marble tile with a polished finish or honed finish. Like polished granite, polished marble provides a cool, mirror like finish. However, unlike granite, marble is especially porous and delicate. It is nowhere near as dense and hard as granite and special care must be taken to maintain it.

Consider This

Due to its considerable maintenance requirements, you may want to consider getting a marble tile color for your kitchen floor that is dark and doesn't show stains. You may also want to consider sealing your floors, especially if your floors are light colored.

Marble tile is also not scratch resistant. Beware of small children and pets!
